Bottas spent five seasons alongside Hamilton, with the pair winning five consecutive Constructors’ championships from 2017 to 2021.

Hamilton won the drivers’ title four times, but lost to Max Verstappen in the last race in 2021.

The Finn couldn’t bring up a credible title win and stayed behind in 2019 and 2020 when he finished second behind Hamilton by a wide margin.

Bottas will open a new chapter in his F1 career this season as he makes his debut for Alfa Romeo while George Russell has been appointed to Mercedes by Williams.

Thinking about his time at Hamilton’s side, Bottas was impressed with how the seven-time champion can still improve despite his wealth of experience and time in the sport.

“At Lewis it was really impressive that he can develop as a driver every year,” said Bottas before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2021.

“He has so much experience in Formula 1, but he could still learn more and I have certainly developed as a driver, but so has Lewis. It doesn’t come automatically, he works for it because he knows that the competition is getting tougher and tougher.

“I have definitely learned a lot from him in these five years, in terms of driving technique, setup, a lot of little things here and there. It was impressive to see how he was still developing and not feeling too comfortable.

“He always wants more from himself and the team around him. It’s the same every year, it just keeps getting better. “

Bottas will get his first taste of the F1 machines of 2022 when pre-season testing begins on February 23 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
