It was another tough qualifying session for them Uralkali Haas F1 Team, passengers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin Qualifying on the last row of the grid, they’ve gotten used to the position.
Schumacher showed a good performance in qualifying Losail International Circuit but retired from qualifying in the first session. The German starts the very first Qatar Grand Prix from nineteenth place on the grid.
Despite his starting position, Schumacher enjoyed racing on the track and believes the team exceeded their goals for this weekend.
“The route is fun – I like to drive here and night driving definitely takes getting used to. We knew it was going to be tough, but overall I’m pretty happy. We got the maximum out of the lap time and achieved our goals, if not exceeded them a bit.
“There was always traffic in the last bend, so the last sector simply builds up. Everyone wants some temperature for the last corner, but then nobody wants to give up a position, so we all stack. We did it well as a team, so I’m very happy about it. “
“It was a marvel” – Nikita Mazepin
On a weekend when he had a real advantage, Nikita Mazepin is through the weekend of hell! The Russian, who was one of two starters previously on the track, has so far missed most of the weekend with technical problems.
Mazepin had almost no running time on the track and therefore not surprisingly starts from last place in the race on Sunday. Mazepin is just happy that the car was repaired on time and is very grateful to all the mechanics for their incredible work.
“I think I did about 10 laps on a track that was completely new to me. What the team did to turn the car around in such a short amount of time – they literally changed everything that can be changed – was great. It was a miracle, not only my car crew worked on it, but also Mick’s. It was something very special from them, but it was a tough qualifying. “
