Since the announcement of a second American Grand Prix in Miami, it has been clear that the FOM wants to gain popularity in the United States. An American driver would be of great help, but F1 teams have the problem that there are no suitable drivers on the market.
The American Haas seems to be the main candidate to put an American driver in one of the cars, and Günther Steiner also confirms that this is their goal. “Absolutely. We are constantly looking and also talking to Stefano (Domenicali, F1-CEO). We see what can be done and try to make a plan for the future,” Steiner explained in an interview with Formula1.com.

The options are limited
Steiner emphasizes that it will not happen in the next few years to put an American driver on an F1 seat. “I think something has to happen. Not immediately, because you can’t really organize anything at short notice because of the super license.” Formula 3 now has a number of American drivers, but they are not on the verge of getting their super license.
“Formula 1 would like to have an American driver, and so would we, but at the moment we can’t do more than check our options. Then a driver has to get his super license, which not many drivers currently have,” Steiner said.
