It’s been a solid weekend under the floodlights for Kimi Raikkonen In the Qatar Grand Prix, after completion just behind the Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda Team. The veteran finished 14th with his teammate. Antonio Giovinazzi just behind in fifteenth place.
It was a good race for Raikkonen in the Losail International Circuit, the veteran had an excellent start to the race and was twelfth at the end of the first lap, four places ahead of his starting position. From then on, Raikkonen, who, like his teammate, followed a two-stop strategy, spent most of the race taking care of his tires in order to avoid possible tire damage. Four drivers suffered a tire damage in the front left during the race, which Raikkonen was able to avoid.
The Finnish driver did an excellent overtaking maneuver Nicholas Latifi in the final phase, walk around the outside of turn 1. At the end of the race, Raikkonen caught up with the AlphaTauri at the front, but didn’t have enough laps to do anything about it.
The 2007 world champion was enjoying the fights he was involved in and was surprised to be able to overtake on the track.
“I was surprised by the overtaking maneuvers, in the end it was an entertaining race. I didn’t expect much at the beginning, maybe to be able to drive with a few people as the car was pretty much the same as yesterday, but we got off to a good start and then it got better and better as the race went on. I had some good fights and in the end we caught up with the McLaren and AlphaTauri in front of us. I think we got everything out of this race. “
I don’t think more than P15 was possible – Antonio Giovinazzi
Antonio Giovinazzi also got off to a good start to the race. Like his experienced team-mate, the Italian won four places on the first lap and quickly ended up in fourteenth place. Giovinazzi enjoyed some good tackles during the race while also trying to take care of his tires. In the end, all Italians were in fifteenth place, ahead of both Uralkali Haas F1 Team Cars and the Williams races Duo.
Giovinazzi believed that he got the absolute maximum out of the race and that the team must be happy with the result depending on where they started.
“We got the maximum out of it, I don’t think we could go beyond P15 today. We had a great first lap, made up four places, and then we were in some nice duels for the rest of the evening. We had problems yesterday, but we knew that with a good race we could finish ahead of both Haas and Williams – and we delivered.
“We chose a two-stop because we knew the breakdown was high and the curbs tough, and in the end we were faster than our rivals. Given our starting position, we have to be satisfied with our race today. “
