Schumacher made his F1 debut with Haas in 2021 after winning the Formula 2 title last year. He was Vettel the only other German driver on the grid.
Vettel has shown great interest in Schumacher’s career after facing his seven-time world champion father Michael between 2010 and 2012 and looked up to him in his early career.
Vettel and Schumacher talked a lot throughout the season and often interacted with each other in the media pen and during the driver parade that returned to Monaco last weekend.
Schumacher announced that Vettel gave him “a lot” of advice at the beginning of his F1 career and that he could learn a lot from the Aston Martin driver.
“I have a lot of respect for him and of course I think we can call it a friendship, which is very nice for me,” said Schumacher.
“He has so much experience and there are so many things I can learn from him.
“I think the biggest advice he has given me is really never to forget why I am here. And that’s because we love the sport. Once you lose that, you are in the wrong place.
“So I enjoy my life. I do the best in the world. I think it’s great when someone like him gives me advice here and there. “

Schumacher has guided Haas’ efforts through the early part of the 2021 season, qualifying and finishing ahead of teammate Nikita Mazepin in four of the five races.
The German driver explained how his confidence is built by having a close relationship with the Haas team, with trust flowing both ways.
“The team is a big part of my development, but it’s also a big part of my trust,” said Schumacher.
“I take the team away from the trust they give me. You have great confidence in us as drivers. I have great confidence in my team.
“This bond is building at a very steep level right now, and that will end up creating time differences where you will always find a little more lap time because you have such a strong connection with the team.
“Even if we don’t see each other, we still build on it because we have behind-the-scenes meetings that people probably never see, but they’re there and the work is daily.
“That is basically what we need to improve, and this is where we will continue to develop our strengths in the future.”
