United States GP: Notes on Racing Team - Haas

The Uralkali Haas F1 team drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin finished in 16th and 17th place in the United States Grand Prix, round 17 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship 2021 at the Circuit of the Americas.

Schumacher started from 16th on Pirelli P Zero Yellow Medium and fought his way up to 14th place before fitting into a rhythm. Schumacher came after 11 of 56 laps for white hard tires and then made a second scheduled stop on lap 35 and returned to the middle compound. Schumacher drove through to the checkered flag with his tires and finished in 16th place.

Mazepin started from position 17 on medium-sized tires, but unfortunately had to pit at the end of the first lap due to a loose headrest, which put him out of order in terms of strategy. Mazepin picked up hard tires on unscheduled service and then made a second stop for new media on lap 25. Mazepin stopped for Mediums a third time on lap 38 and finished 17th.

In the lead, Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen defeated Mercedes-Lewis Hamilton for the 18th time in his Formula 1 career. Team mate Sergio Perez rounded off the podium celebrations in third place.

Nikita Mazepin: “Unfortunately it wasn’t busy because the headrest in my car came off at turn two on the opening lap. It was a pretty sketchy lap because my headrest was raised and both of my mirrors blocked. I had to call the team when someone was around me hoping it wasn’t because I didn’t know where to turn or not and that’s then over 25 seconds of racing time for an unnecessary pit stop.I drove alone trying to make a pit stop to run but at these temperatures and these tires it just wasn’t possible. “

Mick Schumacher: “It was fun – I enjoyed it. Overall we expected worse, so we’re happy with what we’ve done with the Mix package, and all of these things prepare me for next year. We have Open to Latifi in the last few laps and I think with five more laps we would probably have gotten close enough to take a step. I really enjoy being in the states and the fans are great viewers – I loved it to drive in front of them. “

Günther Steiner: “It was a great event for Formula 1 in Austin – the fans were fantastic. Our race was similar to the rest of the year, but we’re not giving up. The drivers brought the cars home safely and we have a lot learned and that’s the best we can do this year. We have five more to go and we’re working towards 2022. “
