Schumacher, the son of the seven-time world champion Michael, made his F1 debut for Haas this season after he had signed a “multi-year” contract with the American team as part of his Formula 2 title wins.
But the 22-year-old German recently indicated that his contract to continue driving for Haas in 2022 has not yet been concluded.
At the British Grand Prix, Steiner announced that the first agreements had been made between Haas and Schumacher’s mother team, Ferrari.
“There are a few things that simply need to be clarified,” explains Steiner.
“It’s obviously a three-way contract because he has one with Ferrari. There has to be a couple of ‘t’s and a couple of’ i’s spotted and then we’ll get there.

“Mick is right when he says he hasn’t signed, there are agreements, but because it’s a three-way it’s always more difficult than when it’s a simple one-on-one deal.”
Schumacher’s work ethic and attitude impressed Haas, despite the fact that the Ferrari junior faced the prospect of driving uncompetitive and underdeveloped machines during his rookie campaign.
Haas will go into the revision of the F1 rules in 2022 with an unchanged line-up, with Steiner confirming that the deal with Nikita Mazepin has already been concluded: “Everything is signed there, everything is fine.”
