This is the result of combining a Boeing 727 with a Mercedes-Benz bus

This is the result of combining a Boeing 727 with a Mercedes-Benz bus

The strange invention (called “Boeing Limo”) was made in Guadalajara, Mexico, and has since made its way to the United States.

There are different things in this world that seem meant to be together. Peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper, pineapple and pizza; These pairings just work. Unfortunately, there are many more things that don’t go together than those that do.

The auto industry has seen a fair share of collaborations, each with their own unique results. More successful partnerships in the auto industry include Ferrari and Marlboro, Ford and Cosworth, and BMW and Toyota. In contrast to that effort, the alliances that weren’t going so well included Ford and Firestone, Daimler and Chrysler, and the Haas F1 Team and Rich Energy.

While these joint ventures produced both astounding and dismal results, none of them are as interesting as the collaboration we’re going to talk about today: a Boeing 727 and a Mercedes-Benz bus.

Love it or hate it, let’s get into this science experiment that went wrong … or right.

Life began as a luxury airliner

The bizarre vehicle in question consists of various components from both a Boeing 727 and a Mercedes-Benz bus. The limousine body is made from the shell of a 727 with its wings and tail cut off. Despite the parts diet, the original staircase, which folds in and out of the aircraft, is still completely intact and usable. The chassis, steering and gas tank all come from the Mercedes bus.

The strange invention (called “Boeing Limo”) was made in Guadalajara, Mexico, and has since made its way to the United States. Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly who is responsible for the design. What we do know, however, is that a company called VACA Limousines is responsible for blessing the world with this glorious invention. Apparently, VACA is the most successful limo rental / design company in all of Mexico. Hence, it was likely that they knew exactly what they were doing in developing the Boeing sedan.

Yes, it’s street legal

Currently, the eccentric wheelset is owned and operated by the LA-based Star Limo Service owned by Robert J. Strauser (AKA Limo Bob). Apparently, Strauser bought the sedan from VACA for around $ 275,000 and has held it ever since. Today the bus / airplane thing is on sale again; This time, however, it’s for a staggering $ 1,000,000. If you don’t have that type of cash, don’t fret. You can go to LA and rent the gigantic vehicle for a small sum of $ 100,000 per month.

Despite the fact that the vehicle is 53 feet long and weighs 24,000 pounds (and basically an airplane with four road tires), the eccentric wheelset is fully road legal. Since the vehicle continues to keep the Mercedes bus turbodiesel engine, it can reportedly go up to 124 mph (not recommended).

In addition, Strauser expressly states that “despite its looks, it is a very safe vehicle”. That sounds like a very lovable statement, but how much credibility a man named “Limo Bob” has is another question that should probably be answered.

The inside is basically a night club

As with all sedans, the most important thing is the inside. Fortunately, the Boeing Limo doesn’t disappoint in this department. For starters, the vehicle is capable of transporting its driver and 40 other people with the same level of comfort you would expect from a private jet.

Similar to a private jet, there are also a variety of amenities scattered around the interior of the sedan. As you step into the area just behind the cockpit, you are greeted with a lovely sunken living / living room area that comes with a large screen TV, a full bar and even a fireplace. There is also a single bathroom in this area in case one of your friends drinks a little too much champagne.

As you move back further, you are greeted with a dance floor that looks like something from the late 90s. Flash lights, laser lights, mirror ceilings and a fog machine are part of the working decor. As Auto Evolution rightly states, “The obvious goal of the design was to provide a wheeled, rolling racket for a group of 40 people.”

At the very back is a kind of private honeymoon suite. There you will find a heart-shaped bed and an infinity mirror. This is great because nothing screams romance more than that of a jet limo you rented from a guy named Limo Bob.
