Max Verstappen passed Lewis Hamilton on the very last lap of the 2021 season finale, and the Haas pit crew seemed to be loving it.
Haas had a very quiet 2021 season. Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen left the team in late 2020. They were replaced by rookie Nikita Mazepin and 2020 F2 Champion Mick Schumacher.
A lot of people expected the two young drivers to struggle in their first season and they weren’t wrong. While we saw occasional highlights from Schumacher, Mazepin underperformed for most of the year.
Additionally, Haas went into the season with the intent to focus all resources on the 2022 campaign. As a result, the drivers had to settle for what was arguably the worst car on the grid, and both finished the season with zero points.

At the other end of the grid, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton found themselves in the middle of a colossal battle for the world title. The scramble started from the very first race in Bahrain. And it could only be decided at the end of the last race in Abu Dhabi.
Millions of fans around the world were thrilled when the Dutchman dethroned Hamilton. Some of these fans were present in the pit wall as we watch the Haas team celebrate Verstappen’s victory at Yas Island. Well they had something to cheer for!
What can we expect from Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in 2022?
The majority of F1 fans wanted a new world champion after Hamilton had dominated the sport for years. So it’s no surprise that the entire Haas team is celebrating the Red Bull driver’s win.
It was nice to see the people who work tirelessly for F1 teams all year round taking some time off to enjoy the sport as fans. But now that 2021 is over and dusted, people have started making predictions for next season.
Verstappen has already made it clear that he has achieved his life goal of becoming F1 champion. Anything that gets in his way, he treats as an added bonus. However, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner and advisor Helmut Marko are firmly convinced that they will fight for both world titles again in 2022.
Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, has not yet shared his thoughts on the controversial end of the season. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff himself is not sure whether the Brit will return to the grid after the incident.
The longer Hamilton is silent, the more likely fans feel that he will resign. In the interests of the sport and its rivalry with Verstappen, we all hope to see the legendary driver back on track soon.
