Schumacher, son of the legendary and seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher, will get his first impression of action in a Haas car during the first practice session on Friday in Abu Dhabi on December 11th. He is then scheduled to take part in the young F1 driver test at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on December 15th.

“I am very happy that we can confirm Mick Schumacher in our driver line-up for the next season, and I look forward to welcoming him to the team,” said Günther Steiner, team principal of the Haas F1 team. “The Formula 2 Championship has long been a testing ground for talent to prove their qualifications, and this year’s field has been without a doubt one of the most competitive in recent seasons. Mick has won races, racked up podiums, and stood out against some pretty extraordinary talent in 2020.

“I am firmly convinced that he has earned the opportunity to get into Formula 1 because of his performance. As a team, we have the opportunity to evaluate and promote a new driver as we are familiar with our racing package for 2021. We set our building blocks for the further long-term growth of the team and from me I look forward to Mick’s contributions on and off the track. ”

Schumacher is a product of the Ferrari Driver Academy and is expected to be in the fast lane to a future F1 drive with Ferrari.

Schumacher strengthens the Haas F1 Team with six seasons of open wheel racing experience. He began his journey in the 2015 ADAC F4 Germany Series and entered the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. In 2018 he won the title with eight wins. On his Formula 2 debut, he was appointed to the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2019. Schumacher drove an F1 test of the season in Bahrain in 2019 and spent two days testing with Scuderia Ferrari and Alfa Romeo Racing.

“The prospect of being in Formula 1 next year makes me incredibly happy and I’m simply speechless,” said Schumacher. “I would like to thank the Haas F1 Team, Scuderia Ferrari and the Ferrari Driver Academy for placing their trust in me.”
