The title fight seems to be building more and more tension among the top teams this season. Max Verstappen has been leading the championship since Monaco after Mercedes did less than expected in the Principality and Baku. The other F1 teams also see that the reigning world champion makes more mistakes than usual.
According to Günther Steiner, team principal of the American Haas, it can be explained that the German team makes more mistakes than expected. He explains that in an interview with RTL. “They come under pressure. Under pressure you have to take more risks.” According to Steiner, it is logical that Mercedes is applying more pressure. “Red Bull is doing a good job, it is possible that they will win it. I think then especially Max Verstappen, he can do it.”

Steiner therefore reckons that Verstappen will pose a great threat to Lewis Hamilton in his hunt for his eighth world title and sees Sergio Perez as an excellent second driver for Red Bull. The team from Austria has been on the hunt for the first constructors’ title since 2013, which will also be the first non-Mercedes title in the hybrid era.
