Robert Shwartzman crossed his arms in the garage.
Shwartzman, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, battled for a spot on the 2021 Formula 1 grid, possibly with Haas or Alfa Romeo, but the Russian racing driver ultimately stayed in Formula 2 for a second season.
His performances there were strong, with two race wins and another three P3 placements that put him third in the 2021 drivers’ standings, with six races still to go.
Unfortunately, there is again no place in Formula 1 for Shwartzman to join the 2022 field, but he will get the chance to try out F1 machines while he is behind it in the Post-Season Young Drivers’ Test Steering of the Haas VF-21 sets final at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

“First of all, I would like to thank the Haas F1 Team, Scuderia Ferrari and the Ferrari Driver Academy for this great opportunity,” said Shwartzman on the Haas website.
“This will be my first test with the Haas F1 Team and I’m really looking forward to getting to know a new team and environment and also to learn as much as possible from them.
“Having the chance to drive for another F1 team is just amazing and I can’t wait to work with everyone.”
Haas boss Günther Steiner is not afraid to give young up-and-coming drivers a chance, after all, their line-up in 2021 consists of rookies Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin, both of whom have been promoted from Formula 2 for the 2021 season, Schumacher as reigning champion.
Now Steiner is looking forward to working with Shwartzman, another Ferrari junior alongside Schumacher and a driver whom he and Ferrari value highly.
“We look forward to testing with Robert in Yas Marina in December,” said Steiner.
“It is obviously rated highly by Ferrari – it has been part of their driver program since the end of 2017. His ability becomes clear when you look at his performances in the last few seasons – especially his rookie campaign in Formula 2 last year – against our own two drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin.
“We are pleased to be able to enable Robert to work in a Formula 1 car and look forward to working with him in Abu Dhabi.”
