Haas slipped to 10th place in the constructors’ championship due to a lack of investment

It’s no secret that the Haas F1 team has been in dire straits because of the pandemic and has been hit particularly hard. This was one of the reasons the team dropped its veteran drivers Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen for rookies Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin. Schumacher came because Ferrari had backed him and Mazepin came in with a wad of money from his billionaire father Dimitry Mazepin who had previously tried to acquire Force India. This is also the reason why the car was not developed much further in 2021, which is why Haas himself is at the bottom of the grid behind the Williams F1 team.

Now rumors are circulating that Gene Haas will withdraw from the F1 project and sell his team to Dimitry Mazepin. The Haas car already has major sponsorship and branding from Mazepin’s Uralkali stable and is almost the colors of the Russian flag. His son Nikita Mazepin is one of the drivers and it can be argued that if his father hadn’t been such a great benefactor of the team, he might have lost his seat due to the social media incident.

“Rumor has it that Gene Haas is pulling out of # F1 and is unfortunately selling to Dmitry Mazepin. It may contain a sponsorship agreement,” tweeted @onlyfruits, an account known for posting information about F1.

This means that Haas is trying to sell to Mazepin. This also means that there could be a role reversal of the branding at some level, as the Haas car is currently littered with the Uralkali branding. It could be a similar deal to the one that Sauber has with Alfa Romeo.

Gene Haas had warned at the beginning of the 2020 season that after 5 years in the sport, he would be re-evaluating. He also said the 2020 season results would have an impact on what he does next. And in 2020, Haas deteriorated thanks to a weak Ferrari engine and was harmed by the pandemic.

“I’m just waiting to see how this season starts,” Haas told Motorsport.com. “If we still have a bad year, it wouldn’t be so cheap [to stay]”he said at the time.

“We did five years. That was really the test – we will do this for five years, see how it goes and evaluate it and then we will decide if we want to continue. I’m not saying we won’t . ” be back. It has to be evaluated. To do it for another five years, however, that would be a huge commitment, “said the legendary owner of the American racing team.
