The mistake was a repetition of his crash in Monaco, in which the German was also unable to take part in qualifying.
Both Schumacher and teammate Nikita Mazepin were involved in incidents in their first year in the sport, but the 22-year-old insisted that mistakes would benefit him for the rest of his career.
“I think by and large I’m pretty happy [with the first half of the season]”Said Schumacher.
“Of course it’s pretty tough because we knew it would be difficult for us, maybe fighting for points, but we made an appearance in Q2. That is a very big highlight of mine.
“It is important to me to make mistakes because you learn from mistakes.”
Schumacher expects a “tough” end of the season
After the summer shutdown, 12 races should end the season.
With Haas at the bottom of the table, Schumacher is hoping for the small victories in order to move up for the rest of the year.
“It’s tough, but we still have to look at it so that we could go into Q2 with an underdeveloped car, so it’s these little moments that we fight for,” he said.
“Hopefully we can have some weekends that are better and we have to accept the weekends that are worse for us.”
