Haas team boss Günther Steiner has confirmed that the three-way character of Mick Schumacher’s F1 contract is responsible for the delay in fixing the German on one seat in 2022.

When the Haas driver 2021 was announced at the end of last year, the team stated that Schumacher had signed a “multi-year agreement”.

“There are a few things that just needed to be clarified,” said Steiner. “It’s a three-way contract, of course, because he has a contract with Ferrari.

“There have to be a couple of Ts crossed and a couple of I’s spotted and then we’ll get there.”

Schumacher was also asked to clarify his contract situation due to the rumors about a change to the Ferrari-operated Alfa Romeo.

The German said: “We will soon have the summer shutdown and then I will really be fully on it and concentrate on it.”

On his driver’s comments, Steiner added: “Mick is right when he says it is not signed, but there is an agreement.

“But because of the three paths, it’s always more difficult than a simple one-on-one contract.”
