Michael Schumacher is considered to be one of the best drivers in Formula 1 history, if not the best. With his seemingly unbreakable records just broken by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, many still hold for Michael sSchumacher as the best driver of all time, and the same fans went crazy when Netflix announced a documentary about Schumacher. With the release on September 15, 2021, Formula 1 fans around the world have signed up for the day on their calendars. With sports documentaries getting better every year, such as Drive To Survive and All Or Nothing as prime examples, there should be no reason fans shouldn’t expect this documentary to do the same.
Schumacher Contains never-before-seen footage from the life of Michael Schumacher and offers interviews from friends and family as well as Formula 1 colleagues such as Sebastian Vettel, Jean Todt, Mika Häkkinen, Damon Hill and even David Coulthard. Starting with Schumacher in the famous red Ferrari on one of the most famous racetracks in history, Monaco, while briefly telling his passion for perfection before breaking off to highlight his humble past, where his father recounts the struggles Michael went through. Turning passion into a profession by using used tires from other racing drivers’ go-karts and winning races with these used tires is something very special.
Voice overs and interviews from his friends and family, including his children, and especially from his son Mick, who himself made his Formula 1 debut this season, on the HAAS F1 team that keeps his father’s legacy alive, are strongly represented. Then the trailer gets down to business, with a dramatic change in the music and tone of the trailer, briefly mentioning previous F1 legends like Prost and Senna and highlighting his hands-on approach and demeanor in his work. The trailer then shows a montage of his races and personal life, including brilliant moves against opponents, and he dances with friends and family. The trailer ends with him taking his legendary podium jump before cutting to the title and the same onboard camera we saw at the beginning of the trailer in Monaco before the trailer ends with the amazing sound of his Ferrari.
With the release date purposely co-ordinated with his debut day in Formula 1, the documentary seems to focus not only on who he was as a driver, but also on a man, husband and father, which was very much appreciated. With a staggering 91 victories over the course of his career, with seven world championships, most from any driver in history, on par with the record-breaking Lewis Hamilton, the filmmakers have confirmed that the documentary contains never-before-seen footage and interviews What fans are longing for after the Schumacher family went pretty private after his skiing incident and Michael was seriously injured, from whom he is still recovering.
With his fans preaching messages of hope to their hero and his legacy unsurpassed at Ferrari, fans hope that Schumacher will be a much-needed documentary for the new wave of Formula 1 fans who are relatively younger and not fortunate see how Schumacher wins races in real time. Fans are just waiting for the release with this Netflix trailer to hold on to and with a strong, loud and powerful message. #KeepFightingMichael.
