The Hungarian Grand Prix was pretty chaotic. Nevertheless, some conclusions can be drawn from what we saw in Budapest. Mercedes seems to be the strongest force in Formula 1 again, Max Verstappen has to start again after his summer break, Valtteri Bottas would have slept badly and more …
Mercedes takes momentum from Red Bull
Red Bull Racing has been dominant in the last few races but since the weekends in the UK and Hungary the roles seem to have reversed. This is mainly due to the updates that Mercedes made. The floor has been improved and other aerodynamic parts have been updated. The result is a higher top speed for which Honda and Red Bull have been praised.
Red Bull has to be in top form in four weeks, when the Formula 1 circus comes from Belgium, because a series of races in which Mercedes collects a lot of points and the Austrian team doesn’t, could end up doing them badly.

Verstappen stated: “I am absolutely sure that I am faster than Hamilton”
Verstappen falls back to P2 after six GPs
After the Monaco Grand Prix, Max Verstappen became the first Dutch leader in the Formula 1 World Championship, but had to surrender this first place to Hamilton after the Hungarian Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion has 195 points after Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification, while Verstappen only has 187 points. After the summer break, there are still 12 Grands Prix left.
Bottas makes a big mistake, Russell makes himself popular
Valtteri Bottas made a big mistake at the start of the Hungaroring. The Finn received a starting place penalty of five places for the next race, but that’s not the worst. Mercedes seems to be making a decision during the summer break as to who will sit next to Lewis Hamilton in 2022 and in Formula 1 it says: You are only as good as your last race.
On top of that, George Russell had another brilliant weekend and even said on the radio that he would be very happy to sacrifice his race to support his teammate. Latifi was third at the time. It will be something that Toto Wolff gets with approval as Russell Hamilton may have to give way more often next year.

First points are a boost for Williams
A podium place was not achieved for Latifi, but the disqualification earned the British team plenty of points. Latifi can claim six points and Russell four. It will no doubt be a boost for the Grove-based team. Williams is currently eighth in the constructors’ championship. Alfa Romeo follows with three points, while Haas F1 has no points yet.
Aston Martin makes silly mistakes
Well, it was perhaps Sunday’s most painful story. Sebastian Vettel fought for victory, finished second, but had to give up his 18 points at the end of the evening. There did not seem to be enough fuel in the tank, which resulted in disqualification. Aston Martin blames a problem with the fuel supply, but the appeal seems to have had little success.
Whether team owner Otmar Szafnauer is telling the truth or not, it’s very clumsy and it’s a very expensive item that the team is throwing away. In fact, it shouldn’t be happening at this level anyway.
