The former F1 driver recently battled his way through a disruptive crash at the Bahrain Grand Prix last year. The French boy suffered burns to his hands and ankles.
Despite his desperate efforts, Grosjean never managed to end his F1 career at a climax by attending Abu Dhabi.
And then Mercedes came up with this offer, which Grosjean accepted wholeheartedly. However, given the slow recovery rate, the 35-year-old couldn’t be fit enough to take the post-season tests in Abu Dhabi. And now, after almost five months, the wait for Grosjean and the entire F1 fandom is finally over.
Grosjean reacts to the offer from Mercedes
The moment Mercedes revealed the news, Grosjean gave the team an enjoyable yet emotional response when he thanked Toto Wolff for the opportunity as well.
“I’m so excited to jump back in an F1 car!” he said. “It will be a special opportunity for me and it will be a unique experience to drive a Mercedes that has won the world championship.

“I am very grateful to Mercedes F1 and Toto for the opportunity. The first time I heard about the opportunity to drive a Mercedes was in my hospital bed in Bahrain when Toto spoke to the media and made the invitation. Read that the news exhilarated me!
“Due to Covid, F1 had no chance to drive in France in 2020. So it will be something special to drive a Mercedes at the French Grand Prix in 2021 and then do a test on the Circuit Paul Ricard, my home track. I can’t wait for the day to come, ”added Grosjean.
Overall, this will be an incredible end to Grosjean’s F1 career driving a Mercedes in France. Not to forget the nice gesture of the team. The Grand Prix takes place on the weekend between June 25th and 27th. Do not miss it!
