Romain Grosjean may have left Formula 1 in late 2020 in a way he didn’t want as his crash in Bahrain made his last race for Haas.

In order to say goodbye to the French, Mercedes wants to give a ride at the French Grand, Grosjean’s home race.

It had to be postponed due to quarantine restrictions, however, which didn’t stop Grosjean from trolling the Silver Arrows as he may have the opportunity to try out the latest aerodynamics update.

Romain Grosjean jokes with Mercedes about the new aero updates

The Frenchman was supposed to drive for Mercedes, Grosjean even drove to Brackley at the beginning of the year to have his suit made and to get to know the car better. It has been announced that Grosjean will drive the car in front of a home crowd at the French GP in June.

However, due to the COVID-19 quarantine restrictions, the test had to be postponed to a later date in the summer. But the Brackley squad has promised to give the 35-year-old the keys to the dominant car on the grid.

However, Grosjean wasn’t disappointed with the canceled event, rather rather joking that he will get a better and improved car to drive on the track. Romain wrote on Twitter: “I’m just waiting for the latest aero update.”

The Silver Arrows want to keep their promise to the French

The seven-time world champion gave the French a guarantee that he will be on the pitch for Mercedes in order to receive a proper dismissal from Formula 1.

Fans were thrilled to see Grosjean at the team factory in Brackley and looked forward to seeing him drive around Paul Ricard. However, certain restrictions have postponed the plan to see Romain in a Silver Arrow.

Mercedes will keep their word and give the former Haas driver a chance, they wrote:We are disappointed to have to announce this. Mercedes test was postponed due to travel restrictions and quarantine requirements.

“We are determined to give Romain his chance in a Mercedes F1 car and are working on postponing the test later this summer.”

The Brackley team will now focus on the actual race for the coming weekend. The team will try to recover from their terrible race in Baku and hope to battle title rivals Red Bull, who are currently topping the championship standings.
