Romain Grosjean may just be at home in Indycar

Romain Grosjean may just be at home in Indycar

Romain Grosjean has had a very interesting racing career. When he was in Formula 1, he wasn’t a very popular driver. Grosjean has never had consistent success with the cars he drove. Now, halfway through his first season at Indycar, Grosjean could be right where he belongs.

An impressive rookie season

It’s strange to call a 10 year old Formula 1 veteran a rookie. But that’s exactly what Grosjean is officially. After it became known that the Haas F1 team will not step down from Grosjean in 2021, Romain made the decision to compete in the USA. Racing fans were absolutely interested in how Grosjean would perform in Indycar.

While Indy and Formula 1 cars are both open wheels, success in one series does not guarantee success in the other. For Grosjean, he really didn’t have much success in Formula 1. In his 10-year career, Grosjean had only 10 podiums and 0 wins. Even so, many consider F1 drivers to be the best in the world, so it was expected that Grosjean could do well in America.

So far, Grosjean has impressed in Indycar. In 9 starts this season, Grosjean took 2 podiums and even secured a pole position. He is also 15th overall in the drivers’ championship for Indycar this season. He certainly didn’t win every single race, but Grosjean is doing very well in his first season on a new track.

A scary ending, but a new beginning

The main reason fans wanted to see Grosjean compete in the Indycar, however, was his last race in F1. Grosjean lost control of his Haas during a race in Bahrain. The car drove straight into a barrier, tore it in half, and set the fuel on fire. Initial reactions assumed that Grosjean hadn’t made it.

Amazingly, however, Grosjean got out of the car on his own. He should of course be missing

the remainder of his final F1 season due to the injuries he sustained. Grosjean could easily have chosen to end his racing career and end her career. Anyone would have understood, given the severity of the crash.

However, Grosjean decided to continue the race. After the F1 season, Grosjean announced that he would drive part-time for Dale Coyne Racing. That announcement came just months after its crash in Bahrain. The burns on Grosjean’s hands hadn’t healed yet.

The phoenix “

Many racing fans now call Grosjean the “Phoenix”. The reason for this nickname seems obvious. Not many racing drivers can say they got out of their way, have a burning car and then race again in less than a year. Grosjean is easily a fan favorite driver in the whole racing world. He may only be part-time at Indycar right now, but there is a good chance the Frenchman will compete full-time next season.
