Grosjean suffered a terrible end to his F1 career in 2020. At the Bahrain Grand Prix he suffered a serious accident in which his car went up in flames. While escaping the crash with minor burns to his hands, he returned to the racetrack. But this time it was IndyCar, not F1.
The Frenchman impressed many in his first IndyCar season. In 13 starts with Dale Coyne Racing, he achieved three podiums. Two of them were runner-up on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway street circuit, the third at Laguna Seca.
On May 14, the 35-year-old took his very first pole position in sport in Indianapolis. His exploits earned him a place at Andretti Autosport, which has won the Indy 500 six times in its history. He will replace Ryan Hunter-Reay and drive the team’s # 28 car in 2022.
The 2021 IndyCar season ended on September 26th when Alex Palou from Chip Ganassi Racing won the championship. After the season ends, many test the cars they’ll be driving next year. And Grosjean was no exception, getting into his new Andretti Autosport car before the next season.
The Frenchman looked quite happy in his yellow jumpsuit and will take part in ROP testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway tomorrow.
