Former Haas rider Romain Grosjean had a pretty dramatic exit from the sport at the end of last season in 2020. He survived a catastrophic accident at the Bahrain GP. However, in a recent interaction with Nico Rosberg, he shared his views on another major incident at the 2012 Spa GP.

Grosjean, who was involved in an accident with Lewis Hamilton on the first lap, was banned from racing following the incident. He was also fined € 50,000 for causing an incident that “had the potential to hurt others”. Of course, the Swiss driver also has his or her opinion. He believes Hamilton could have backed away to avoid the crash.

The Lotus driver made his comeback this season after a two-year break from the sport. He’s had a couple of good races that year, taking two podiums in the Bahrain and Canadian GP. In the same year he was involved in several accidents on the first lap. At Spa, Grosjean quickly moved around the first corner, which caused a collision, over Lewis Hamilton’s Mclaren. His Lotus got out of control and hit Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari, who narrowly escaped there. Grosjean apologized after the incident: “I misjudged the gap to Lewis. I thought I was in front of him. It was a small mistake, but a big incident. “
But after all these years when Romain revisited the incident, he had a different view of the situation. “Lewis could have given me a little more space or withdrew from the situation,” said the Swiss.

Reactions after the fatal crash
Grosjean was punished for the incident, but many thought it wasn’t harsh enough. The three-time world champion Niki Lauda was furious about what he called a “stupid accident”. “If I had to make a decision, I would stop him for two races because it was the most dangerous act he has ever committed,” Lauda said, according to the BBC.
Meanwhile, Hamilton refused to discuss the incident. “I really don’t want to talk about the start. People can see what happened, ”said the Briton. Fernando Alonso, who is believed to have missed the WDC this year due to the incident, appeared more considerate of his former teammate Grosjean. “Nobody does this on purpose. They fought, two aggressive drivers at the start – Lewis and Romain – and this time we were in the wrong place and at the wrong moment, ”said the Spaniard.
