Nikita Mazepin and the worst F1 drivers in history

Nikita Mazepin and the worst F1 drivers in history

It was a difficult task for Haas F1 driver Nikita Mazepin. The Formula 1 rookie driver has participated in three races this season with a top result of 17 (Imola). On his debut (Bahrain) he lost control on the third corner of the first lap and fell.

The fall on the first lap in Bahrain shouldn’t come as a surprise. During qualifying for the race, Mazepin spun out on his first lap at turn 13 and later on on his first qualifying lap at turn one. The second spin-out prevented some of the other drivers from doing a decent qualifying.

It’s early in Mazepin’s career and maybe he can change the situation for the Haas F1 team, but the first signs aren’t promising.

I understand it takes a ton of money to run an F1 team, and drivers who can handle sponsorship dollars have a distinct advantage over their aspiring brothers as F1 racing drivers. Mazepin is nothing more than the by-product of a wealthy benefactor at this point (his father is Russian businessman Dmitry Mazepin, who is valued at $ 1,300,000,000.00).

A contract driver isn’t a new concept for Formula 1 and Mazepin won’t be the last, but his lack of skill behind the wheel is almost ridiculous at this point. Watching him drive is like watching the Washington Generals in a game against the Harlem Globetrotters.

But is Mazepin the worst driver in F1 history?
