Former Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat may be considering switching to NASCAR.
That says Haas F1 team boss Günther Steiner, whose own boss Gene Haas owns the Stewart-Haas NASCAR team together with Tony Stewart.
Daniil Kvyat spent some time at the Circuit of the Americas last week in his role as reserve driver for the Alpine F1 team.

“Many drivers want to try it out,” said Steiner when asked about NASCAR. “Some also switch to IndyCar.” This is a big step for them as these series are very different – it’s like imagining switching from NASCAR to Formula 1. It’s not just about driving, it’s about the entire system.
“Mick (Schumacher) was at the (NASCAR) race in Texas, and Daniil Kvyat will be coming to the race in Martinsville,” Steiner said, referring to the race in Virginia this weekend. “Everyone who goes to NASCAR asks me ‘Hey Günther, can you meet someone?’ Daniil will stop by to see if there are any interesting options for him because he’s not in Formula 1 at the moment .. “
The 27-year-old Russian Kvyat lost his place in Red Bull’s Formula 1 program at the end of last year and has served as the Alpine reserve driver ever since. Kvyat had three podiums in 110 starts and finished 14th in the F1 drivers’ standings in 2020.
Formula 1 drivers rarely switched to NASCAR, although 2007 Formula 1 champion Kimi Raikkonen started in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Truck Series in 2011. Other F1 veterans who have raced in NASCAR include Juan Pablo Montoya, Nelso Piquet Jr., Jacques Villeneuve, Jim Clark and Scott Speed.
Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton got a sneak peek at NASCAR at an exhibition run in Watkins Glen in 2011 as part of a car swap event with Tony Stewart.
