
The German Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher is ready to become Ferrari’s substitute driver for the 2022 Formula 1 season, the Italian team has confirmed.
Mick Schumacher, son of the seven-time world driver champion Michael Schumacher, is supported by Antonio Giovinazzi as two substitute drivers for the Scuderia.
In addition to Nikita Mazepin, Mick Schumacher will also drive in Formula 1 with the Haas F1 team, with which he is under contract until 2022.
Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto confirmed that Mick Schumacher will be entitled to step in for Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz in 11 races if necessary.
Giovinazzi, who is expected to switch to Formula E next season, can act as standby for the other 13 races on the 23-race calendar for the next season.
“Whenever he (Antonio Giovinazzi) is on the track, he will be our reserve driver. He will also be available to our customer teams, both Haas and Alfa Romeo. Mick Schumacher will be his replacement for the remaining 11 races. “Driver for Ferrari.”
Mick Schumacher’s mother team Haas has signed the Brazilian Pietro Fittipaldi as a substitute driver. The grandson of two-time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi worked twice for Haas after Romain Grosjean’s fireball crash in Bahrain in 2020.

Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto was full of praise for Mick Schumacher after the German’s debut season in Formula 1 in 2021.
As a product of the legendary Ferrari driver academy, Mick Schumacher outclassed his teammate Nikita Mazepin for most of the year.
Binotto has now said that Mick Schumacher will continue to receive support from Ferrari in his development. This includes working with Ferrari’s state-of-the-art simulator as well as the advice and input of Ferrari engineers in Maranello.
The 22-year-old German is touted for reaching the peak of the sport in the coming years. Mick Schumacher is not only the son of the whimpering Michael Schumacher, but is also coming to F1 as the reigning F2 driver world champion for 2020.

Ferrari will be interested in holding onto Mick Schumacher and helping him improve his skills. With Carlos Sainz on a short contract, he could be a viable replacement for the Spaniard to join Charles Leclerc, who has a long-term contract under his belt.
