The Haas F1 team quickly developed into the “Ferrari B” team of Formula 1.
That is the claim of the most prominent and famous young Ferrari driver, the 22-year-old son of the seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher.
Schumacher is currently driving a Ferrari for Haas – a team that is still looking for its first points of the 2021 season. The North Carolina team has really had problems this season, but that’s in large part because the 2020 car – the basis of the as-yet undeveloped 2021 car – was barely developed. Haas invested its development resources towards its 2022 machine this year.
Haas is also targeting midfield for 2022, thanks in part to a new and deeper collaboration with Ferrari, including a special design facility on the grounds of the Ferrari store in Maranello, Italy. Still, Haas’ goals for 2022, which will be the seventh season for the team, are modest for 2022.
Even Schumacher says that a small step in qualifying is more realistic than predicting podium places or race wins.
“The goal is to be in Q2 regularly, the wish is Q3,” said the German Schumacher in Qatar.
And while Schumacher drives for Haas, he does not hide the fact that he also wants to impress his Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto.
“What I hear is that everyone at Ferrari is satisfied with what I’ve shown so far,” Schumacher told the European media company Sport1. “But I also know that I have to take the next step next year.”
There are high hopes for the 2022 Haas car, especially since the team has been working on it longer than most other teams in the pit lane.
When asked about the new Haas system in Maranello, Schumacher said: “That’s right. We are now practically the Ferrari B team in which Ferrari juniors like me can drive. In Maranello we now also have the opportunity to work in the wind from Ferrari. ”Tunnel. That will be an advantage. “
