Mick Schumacher is about to renew Haas’ contract

Mick Schumacher is about to renew Haas' contract

Haas boss Günther Steiner has announced that Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin will be announced as their line-up for 2022 in the coming days.

Schumacher and Mazepin are cut off from the rest of the Formula 1 field this season because of the seriously unrivaled VF-21 car they have at their disposal.

As a result, the duo were embroiled in their own personal struggle, with tensions boiling between them at various stages of the 2021 campaign.

But even if they don’t really agree, they will at least stay teammates for another season.

“Mick should be confirmed soon,” Steiner said in an interview with RTL.

“Let’s wait a few more days, hopefully it’ll work out then. Then everyone will be happy and I don’t have to answer this question anymore!

“Until then [Sochi] we want to confirm both.

“Sochi would be the right time, then we could concentrate fully on the next year after Sochi.”

While Steiner would not be drawn into the details of the two deals with Schumacher and Mazepin, he categorically stated that the team would not show any preference between the two: “This has never happened before. And that won’t happen in the future either. “

The upcoming Russian Grand Prix in Sochi is practically a home race for Haas given the financial support they have received from the Mazepin family.

And Steiner, who sees a very busy weekend ahead of Nikita Mazepin, is excited to see how much Formula 1 can continue to grow in Russia.

“I haven’t talked to Nikita about it yet, but when I get there I’ll of course talk to him when he has time for me!” Said Steiner.

“I’ve seen his schedule and what he has to do, just for the media, and the attention he gets in Russia is going to be a pretty demanding weekend for him, but hopefully a lot of people will support him.

“Of course he’s not racing for the championship like Max [Verstappen] At the moment the crowd may not be that big for him, but I’m sure he has a lot of fans there and let’s see what they can come up with.

“I’m interested in how far we can take Formula 1 in Russia.”
