Ralf Schumacher, brother of the seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael, has praised the Netflix documentary ‘Schumacher’ published last week. The film traces Schumacher’s career from his beginnings in karting to his retirement. Ralf told Sport 1: “There were many years in which I was not involved. Of course there would have been a lot more, it was a very long time. “But I think it’s very, very nicely done, at least as far as motorsport and sport are concerned. Also many private insights, also from the family, especially the children and their mother. I thought that was really great, very open. “
Schumacher’s wife Corinna, son Mick and daughter Gina all speak in the film.
Corinna admitted that the family “misses” her father and husband every day, and also shared the methods they are using to help Michael recover.
She said, “I miss Michael every day. But not only do I miss him. It’s the kids, the family, his father, everyone around him.
“Everyone misses Michael, but Michael is different here, but here. He still shows me every day how strong he is.”
Corinna also spoke about conversations she had had with her husband before his accident in the French Alps.
She added: “Just before it happened in Meribel, he said to me, ‘The snow is not optimal. We could fly to Dubai and go skydiving there.’
“We always got through his races safely. So I was sure he had a couple of Guardian Angels looking out for him.
“I don’t know if it’s just some kind of protective wall that you put up yourself or because you’re kind of naive – but it just never occurred to me that something could ever happen to Michael.
“I never blamed God for why this happened now [the accident] was just unlucky all the bad luck someone can have in their life. “
Schumacher has been cared for privately in his Swiss house on Lake Geneva since the accident and the family has carefully guarded details about his health.
His son Mick, who drives for the Haas F1 team, also spoke about the skiing accident and his relationship with his father.
In an emotional part of the film, Mick implies that his father is still suffering from communication difficulties.

He said, “I think Papa and I would understand each other differently now. Simply because we speak a similar language, the language of motorsport.
“And that we’d have a lot more to talk about. That’s where my head is most of the time. To think this is so cool, this is it.
“I would give up everything for that. Yes.”
Mick also said he thought the skiing accident was “unfair” as it had robbed him of the chance to make more memories of his father.
He continued, “When I think of the past now, the images that pop up in my head are usually that the four of us are having fun. I see pictures of us driving a go-kart in the meadow.
“I see pictures when we were on the road, with the ponies, sitting on the carriage. Really many moments that resonate with joy.
“And since the accident, these experiences, these moments that I believe many people have with their parents, have either no longer existed or to a lesser extent.
“And that’s a little unfair from my point of view.”

Another current driver, the four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, also paid a touching homage to Schumacher in the Netflix film.
The Aston Martin driver spoke about how his compatriot had influenced his own career.
Vettel said, “He’s been my idol since I started driving go-karts. He’s been a big influence.
“The racing driver Michael Schumacher is my hero, my motivation to win races.
“The sport fascinates me and I know other racing drivers, but there wasn’t anyone like him.”
Schmacher’s close friend Jean Todt gave Formula 1 fans hope by claiming earlier this month that the German could “return to a more normal life”.
He said: “We all know that Michael had a very serious accident and unfortunately it had serious consequences for him.
“Since then he has been treated so that he can return to a more normal life.”
After an earlier visit to his friend in September last year, Mr. Todt said at the time: “He is fighting.
“My God, we know he had a terrible and unfortunate skiing accident that caused him a lot of problems.
“But he has a great wife next to him, he has his children, his nurses, and we can only wish him the best and the best for his family too.
“All I can do is be close to them until I can do something, and then I’ll do it.”
