McLaren expects Ricciardo to “have more to come” in 2022
McLaren Race Director Andrea Stella believes that Daniel Ricciardo will find more performance in the 2021 season than he was able to show.
Ricciardo struggled to get used to his new car in his first year on the team and was clearly outdone by teammate Lando Norris despite winning the Italian Grand Prix. Stella says Ricciardo has made “tangible” progress by 2021 and believes he will find more power in his second season.
“On Daniel’s front, I think the progress through the season [was] within reach, ”said Stella.
“We know that there is more to come with Daniel. In a way, we still have some kind of development plan and I’m excited to see what we can do [this] Year with Daniel. From this point of view, I am very optimistic. And let me just say that working with him is a real pleasure. I think it really creates a nice atmosphere in the team, which is a good basis for technical and driver development. “
Long Beach Grand Prix extended to 2028
Long Beach City Council has approved the extension of the Long Beach Grand Prix through to and including 2028.
The organizer of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach (GPALB) announced a seven-year extension of the event, starting in 2022 and running through the 2028 edition. Both IndyCar and IMSA sports car races are currently taking place at the Long Beach Grand Prix on the same weekend.
“The City Council-approved Grand Prix extension is the result of extensive discussions with the city leaders that we believe have benefited all parties concerned,” said Jim Michaelian, CEO and President of GPALB.
“The Grand Prix has always been a very strong community event and this agreement strengthens the unique relationship with Long Beach City going forward.”
After the 2021 edition of the event took place in September, the 2022 Grand Prix will return to its usual spring date of April 9-10.
