Turn 10 changes more in favor of Mercedes than Red Bull

Smaller teams have a special vote

In negotiating the budget cap last year, a few smaller teams made eye-catching decisions, McLaren said. “So you had teams that were close to the cap and suddenly supported a much larger budget, which makes no sense at all. I can tell you that it often happens that teams vote against their own interests.”

A team like Haas F1 gets a lot of parts from Ferrari, but chances are the Italian racehorse might expect Günther Steiner’s team to vote (directly or indirectly) in the same way. McLaren itself has never had such a request from its engine supplier. “Mercedes never asked us to vote in a direction we didn’t want. But if you look around the room [during a vote] and you see who’s voting for what, it raises eyebrows a lot, “Brown said.
