Mazepin considers Schumacher to be a “misunderstanding”

Haas: Mazepin move on Schumacher at finish line a ‘misunderstanding’

Schumacher spent most of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix ahead of Mazepin, only the Russian overtook his teammate at the standing start with two laps to go and moved up to 13th place.

Schumacher was able to catch up with Mazepin as they neared the finish line on the final lap, only Mazepin moved to the right late when his teammate overtook.

Mazepin gave Schumacher enough space to take 13th place, but the German driver quickly vented his anger on the team radio and said: “What the hell was that, honestly? Seriously, does he want to kill us? “

After the race, Schumacher said he had to “take another look at what happened” and added, “That wasn’t so nice in the car”.

Mazepin announced that he had run out of battery when he got towards the finish line, causing his speed to slow down the straight and frustrating him to lose the place.

“The main thing is that I’m a little upset that I lost my position on the main straight to my team-mate,” said Mazepin.

“I ran out of battery there, so I was a bit of a seated passenger, but it is what it is.”

In his post-race press release, Steiner said the matter had been cleared up by the team.

“There was a situation on the straight that was resolved and we cleaned the air,” said Steiner.

“There was some misunderstanding, but we’re fine and everyone is moving on.”

Schumacher’s 13th place helped Haas catapult ninth in the constructors’ championship ahead of Williams, who had just one car finish from Nicholas Latifi after a transmission problem forced George Russell to retire.

Mazepin’s run to 14th place also marked the best result of his F1 career so far, lifting him above Latifi in the drivers’ standings.

“A nice number for the team, but of course there were some unexpected situations with drivers that allowed us to achieve this position,” said Mazepin.
