On Tuesday, Mick Schumacher got a foretaste of the machine with which his famous father, the seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael, made his Formula 1 debut during a short demonstration drive in Silverstone.
Schumacher, 22, drove a green painted Jordan 191, the car his father used in the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix.
The demonstration was part of a TV feature filmed by UK broadcaster Sky Sports F1 and will be shown at the Belgian Grand Prix next month on the 30th anniversary of Michael Schumacher’s Formula 1 debut.
Michael Schumacher was known to be drafted for his Formula 1 debut at Spa-Francorchamps in 1991 with Jordan – at that time in his first season in the championship – and qualified in seventh place, but retired due to a damaged clutch.

It was Schumacher’s only appearance for Jordan when he moved to Benetton for the next race, where he stayed until 1995 and won the first two of his seven world titles. Schumacher started 306 races and enjoyed most of his successes during an 11-year stint with Ferrari before retiring from Mercedes in 2012.
Michael has not been seen in public since his serious skiing accident in December 2013.
Mick has already demonstrated his father’s title-winning Formula 1 machinery at a number of Grands Prix. He got behind the wheel of the 1994 Benetton B194 in Spa Francorchamps in 2017, drove the 2004 Ferrari F2004 in Hockenheim in 2019 and again in Mugello last year as part of Ferrari’s 1000th Grand Prix celebration.

The younger Schumacher, who is supported by Ferrari, rose to Formula 1 with the Haas F1 team after winning the Formula 2 (2020) and Formula 3 (2018) titles for 2021. Due to the limitations of Haas’ VF-21, which has not yet been developed this season, it still has to fight for the top 10 as the team focuses on the new regulations for 2022.
Schumacher nevertheless achieved the goal of the first 10 Grands Prix he started in his career. His best result so far was 13th place at the Azerbaijan F1 Grand Prix in Baku.
