The Formula 1 season is dominated by the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on December 12th, after Lewis Hamilton took over the business in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.
Hamilton overtook Max Verstappen in the lead with 44 laps remaining and won the 50-lap Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. The win was Hamilton’s eighth of the season and third in a row and the record-breaking 103rd of his career. The lead on victory was a comfortable 11.8 seconds ahead of Verstappen, who was penalized with a late 5-second penalty for violating the track boundary.
Valtteri Bottas came third for Mercedes.
The race consisted of three standing starts, including two restarts triggered by red flags for track cleaning and repair.
Hamilton, who is aiming for his eighth Formula 1 record, and Verstappen are with 269.5 points on the remaining race – December 12 in Abu Dhabi. Verstappen started the race in Saudi Arabia with an eight point lead and had a chance for the title.
“It’s more like that,” said Hamilton after the win.
As for Verstappen, “It is what it is.”
This is what it looks like on Sunday night in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
