During the Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Kevin Magnussen had a coming together at Turn 4. Right after the collision, Kevin suggested on the radio that Lewis had done it on purpose. The race stewards had noted that the touching was a racing incident, and no driver was penalized. Even after the race, Kevin wished not to comment as he had not seen the replays himself.

Ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, the Danish driver now agrees that he could have given more space to Hamilton.
So what did Kevin say in Monaco?

Taking some time and probably going over the incident again, the Haas driver changed his view. “Yeah, I had a chance to look at it and of course changed my view on it,” said Kevin. “I had a feeling when I was on the track that he opened his steering, but that’s not what happened.”

The Danish driver also added he should have turned in a little later to prevent the accident from happening. Hey said, “I just wish I had turned in one millisecond later to have a little bit more… in a corner like that, if you’re gonna go round the outside, you want to be as close to him as possible.
He mentioned that one can’t go too wide and into the dirty part of the track. This resulted in Kevin and Lewis colliding with each other, which left Hamilton at the back of the grid, though he managed to fight his way into the points and finished P5. Magnussen meanwhile had a horrible race and finished outside the points in P17.

Recovering from the disappointment of Barcelona, Kevin is absolutely excited for Monaco. He said that he can’t wait to tackle the challenges that the iconic street circuit will throw at him. Speaking to Haas’ media before the race, he gave his thoughts.

“I think these cars are a lot better in terms of being able to follow closely and race closely, but I still think Monaco is a tricky enough place that perhaps we won’t see such a big difference there.”

When asked about the possibility that Monaco could be removed from the calendar, Magnussen said, “I just think that it’s one of the tracks that, to me, is really in Formula 1’s DNA,” he said. The driver agreed that the racing in Monaco may not be the best on a Sunday, however, the weekend that Monaco delivers values a lot to the world of Formula 1 and that is what made it exciting.
