The dream for many fathers and sons who both have motor racing careers is to race together, though few ever achieve it at the highest level. Kevin Magnussen was about to enter the elite group of father/son team mates at this year’s Daytona 24 hours along with dad Jan for the MDK Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 outfit.

However, a minor surgical procedure to remove a cyst from his hand means Kevin Magnussen has been advised he requires a two week rest period and is now forced to pull out of the iconic sports race held annually in Florida.

“I’ve been advised by the doctors not to drive the race next week,” Magnussen said in a statement.

“The surgery went well, but I need to rest as much as possible to be fit for fight before we begin preparing for the F1 season.

“It’s a shame. I’ve been looking forward to that fantastic race and to get a new chance to drive with my father and MDK Motorsports.

“I’m wishing the team a great weekend at Daytona.”

K-Mag ready for pre-season F1 testing

Kevin Magnussen will again be on track in just over 4 weeks time as the Formula One pre-season test in Bahrain gets underway on the 23rd February.

Haas F1 have recruited Nico Hulkenberg to race alongside Magnussen for the 2023 Formula One season who will start his 9th season of racing in the world’s premier motorsport category.

Kevin began his F1 career in 2014 replacing Sergio Perez at McLaren having been promoted from the Formula Renault 3.5 series. The Danish driver topped the timesheets at both the Jerez and Bahrain pre-season tests and qualified P4 for the opening round of the season in Australia.

Excessive wheelsman at the start of the race almost caused Magnussen to crash out before the first corner but his brave move on Lewis Hamilton early on saw him claim P3 which he retained to the checkered flag just 2.2 seconds behind Daniel Ricciardo who was first over the finish lines.

Magnussen was promoted to P2 when Ricciardo was disqualified for a fuel flow rate irregularity and was the first F1 debutante to score points since Lewis Hamilton back in 2007. Further he was the first rookie to claim a P2 in his maiden F1 race since Jacques Villeneuve back in 1996.
