Jos Verstappen reveals advice he gave Mick Schumacher and his mother

Jos Verstappen talked about how he helped Mick Schumacher’s mother Corinna how her son’s career should continue at a crucial point in time.

Verstappen has long been close to the Schumacher family, he and the seven-time former world champion Michael were teammates for Benetton in 1994.

After Mick finished his first season in ADAC Formula 4 in 2015, he finished 10th in the championship and improvements were needed to continue his progress in the junior categories – and Verstappen helped his family with that.

“I talked to Corinna after his first year in Formula 4 and she asked me which direction he should go,” said Verstappen via sport1.de.

He told her Mick should switch to the Italian Prema Powerteam “because they were the best in Formula 4 and Formula 3 at the time. And they did. “

After this move, his fortune certainly improved, as Schumacher won 25 individual races in his championship bouts in ADAC Formula 4 and Italian Formula 4 the following season, while he started for Prema in 2016.

He finished P2 in both championships that year and continued his junior career at Prema during his further promotion to Formula 1.

The Prema machinery was under him when he clinched the Formula 3 European Championship title in 2018, as well as in his Formula 2 title season last year.

While having had a difficult start to his Formula 1 career in an unrivaled car, Verstappen believes he has done well and demonstrated his quality early in his time in the premier class of motorsport.

There were rumors that Schumacher’s future may be with Alfa Romeo beyond 2021, with his and the team guaranteeing a mutual bond with Ferrari and neither Kimi Raikkonen nor Antonio Giovinazzi’s future with the team.

However, since Haas has already redirected its resources to its 2022 car, it might be worth it for Verstappen to wait his time with his current team and say, “I would wait and see what happens there in a year.”
