“It’s quite a nightmare” – Williams’ George Russell has no sympathy for the struggling Haas F1 team

"It’s quite a nightmare" - George Russell of Williams doesn't feel pity for the struggling Haas F1 team

“It’s quite a nightmare” – Williams star George Russell understands the Haas F1 team’s struggles after seeing it for himself in 2019.

Haas pitched an all-rookie cast of Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin this season after letting go of Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen. Given that they have the worst car on the grid, both drivers have finished very well all five races so far, with the exception of the Russian’s first lap debut in Bahrain.

Both Schumacher Jr. and Mazepin were lapped several times, which George Russell is used to at Williams. But the Briton doesn’t feel sorry for the Haas drivers, although he calls it “quite a nightmare”.

“Yes, it’s incredibly difficult (to be overlapped). And if you run over (after blue flags), you lose the entire tire temperature and then have no more grip. It’s quite a nightmare.

“It was tough for me, but I don’t feel sorry for the Haas boys. We were two years ago. “

This means a lot. Gracias, legend.

Russell lost his rhythm in Monaco because of the blue flags

Russell also faced the shame of being lapped once in Monaco, but was able to win the “Battle of the Rookies” – ahead of Schumacher, Yuki Tsunoda and Mazepin – and Williams’ team-mate Nicholas Latifi. Williams Racing last scored an F1 point in 2019 from veteran Robert Kubica.

“It was such a race that I was looking for the blue flags in my rear-view mirrors. I had a time span of about 10 laps, I was just in the groove, it was almost like leading the race.

“You get into this rhythm and start flying. But as soon as the faster cars appear behind you, you lose focus and rhythm. “
