Is it a legitimate attack on F1 driver Nikita Mazepin to be labeled a “damn idiot”?

Nikita Mazepin

• • Nikita Mazepin sparked the wrath of his rivals on the track in 2021.

• • The Haas rider had multiple run-ins in the first four races of the season.

• • Mazepin is supported by his father’s millions.

After four races controversial Nikita Mazepin has not proven that the Formula 1 world is wrong in their opinions about him. And unfortunately, the Russian driver is unlikely to win anyone over – at least for the time being, if he’s lucky. Nevertheless, we have to ask ourselves whether the driver can change or whether he is too much adjusted to his own way.

At the last race of the 2021 season, the Spanish Grand Prix, Mazepin annoyed his rivals to no end. Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll even said, “Damn Mazepin has no idea what he’s doing.”

Maybe Stroll is right, but maybe, just maybe, the Haas employee has still settled into his new role as an F1 driver.

Run-ins with Mazepin

Ironically, it’s not just Stroll who feels bad about him. After further incidents on the track in the first four races of the year, some drivers have said the following “Run-ins” with the 22 year old::

Antonio Giovinazi: “What is Mazepin doing? Honest! This guy is honest … so stupid.”

Nicholas Latifi: What an idiot! I didn’t do it on purpose. This guy’s a fucking idiot.

Sergio Perez: “Aah, that damn idiot!”

Charles Leclerc: “Mazepin will never change.”

Are these comments justified?

This is the big question we have to answer as Mazepin is not that familiar with motorsport. In fact, he’s a proven race winner who won four GP3 races in 2018 and finished the season in second place overall. In 2019, Mazepin moved up one category to GP2 but finished a low 18th overall in his debut season.

But did you know Mazepin was a test driver for the Force India team until the team went into administration in 2018? And did you know that he drove for the Mercedes-AMG F1 team during the tests of the 2019 season?

Apart from his father’s money, Mazepin has been cared for for Formula 1 for several years. His involvement with Force India and Mercedes-AMG put him in the spotlight and the teams would have been aware of his presence. Unfortunately, the results on the track never really established him to move on to the next level over the course of his career, but the financial support he brings is too difficult for the teams to ignore. And for one financially worn out outfit like HaasHe’s the driver they needed to stay afloat.

Mazepins 2021: can he turn it around?

Any person with the integrity necessary to learn from mistakes can change their fortune, but Mazepin has shown that he will not turn from his point of view. So far in 2021, Mazepin has shown that he will drive for himself and not be considerate of other F1 drivers. He has broken several “gentlemen’s agreements” that F1 drivers have with each other, and his antics on the track has either put others in danger or put their races at risk.

Until Nikita Mazepin realizes that he is not the best or fastest driver on the grid, he will not change. He will continue to fight against drivers who are not his or the team’s direct competitors. In fact, the Haas F1 car is the slowest on the grid, which is one more reason for Mazepin to be realistic about his chances of good results.

Mazepin is the slowest driver in 2021, but he drives like every track is his. It is this type of behavior that underpins Latifi’s remarks.
