Haas F1 has a reputation for being the weakest team this season. Now that we haven’t scored any points and are constantly at the bottom of the scoreboard, it looks like another dark season for the team. This includes driver Nikita Mazepin, who is seemingly frustrated with his rookie season so far. Known for being notorious for the blue flags, he’s tired of seeing them.

After the Austrian GP you could hear him say: “We chose a different strategy – two stops, but that didn’t work. The tire wear wasn’t even as great as expected, but it was just those blue flags … It was just a long afternoon. ” [translated using Google translate].

The Russian’s anger did not end there. He thought the race was so bad; he wishes he weren’t there. ”At the beginning of the weekend I would have liked to have gone somewhere else … then at least I could have learned a new route. The advantage is that I drove quite a few laps and burned a few calories. ”Team boss Günther Steiner thought differently. “Given our pace, we didn’t have a bad race. We stayed out of the anger and avoided a lot more blue flags than last weekend. ”However, it is understandable that the 22-year-old is frustrated by the incessant underperformance in his rookie season.
What happens to Haas & Mazepin
When you look back on the team’s great 2018 season, the current status is regrettable. After 5th place in the constructors’ championship, the team went down. And after all experience has been completely erased by getting rid of Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean, the current all-rookie team is struggling. In Steinberg, the two riders not only sat at the bottom of the board, but were also the only team to be lapped twice.
As the youngest team in the starting field, it was Steiner’s wish to develop the team further and help it grow. However, financial problems have been a major obstacle on this path. That includes the episode with Rich Energy Drink. They sponsored the team for half of the 2019 season and then walked away with the attention they wanted. Sponsorship was a problem for Haas, and having their cars stalled in the barriers for most of the season didn’t help.

2018 was a long time ago and the competition has only gotten better. They may need to rethink their already decaying strategy – they had never mastered a rookie before racing with two. Haas is falling headfirst in a downward motion and may need to improve soon. The only other team with zero points in their name is Williams, who with the help of Russell sets the pace.

Mazepin may have to hold out his frustrations at Haas if he plans to continue racing. His only hope would be that the team will upgrade with the new technical regulations for next season. Until then, he just has to give way to the blue flag.
