Like every year, F1 journalist Chris Medland has made a wish list for the 2022 F1 season. The list shows what we were missing in 2021 and, on the other hand, shows what we want more of in the next season.
Race management and FIA have to get better
Medland writes in his column on Racer.com what he hopes to see and does not hope to see this F1 season. A great wish of the Briton is a better and clearer performance by the race management. There were too many controversial moments on the track in 2022. According to Medland, this was by no means always due to two or more drivers. “I would actually like to see more of that between teams and drivers, because we would have winners and losers. But if it is driver versus race director? Rather less of it.”
On the contrary, in 2021 the controversy often came from the corner of Michael Masi and his stewards. A good example is the Saudi Arabia race. The best example is the last race and the title decision, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The race management there behaved remarkably and hinted at Medland. The journalist hopes the FIA will come up with a clear explanation and reconstruction of the final phase of this race. Masi doesn’t need to be fired from Medland, but an explanation is needed.

According to Medland, a highlight of 2021 was the rivalry between Mercedes and Red Bull Racing. He hopes for more of this in 2022 and focuses in particular on the fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. “[They] deserve a winning car, but they deserve the chance to compete even more; not seeing one drive away from the other every weekend. “
The journalist has become eager and, in addition to the continuation of the rivalry between Verstappen and Hamilton, wants to add at least a third contender. The great wish of the Briton is that a team has what it takes to take the lead in 2022. “That would be a good start to this era. There are so many good talents on different teams. Wouldn’t it be great to see Ferrari? and McLaren is fighting for podiums again? “

List of Medland
The rest of Medland’s wish list concerns more trivial things. For example, the Brit wants a stronger Haas F1 team. The straggler is too far behind to give Mick Schumacher a chance to show what he can do. Medland also hopes that the Miami GP will be a complete success, that there will be less overlap between Formula 1 and IndyCar and that no GPs will have to be canceled due to Corona.
