
Haas F1 team boss Günther Steiner is confident that the American team can return to the good shape it was in a few years ago. Haas is in its worst Formula 1 season in the team’s short existence in 2021.
Haas in search of the old form
Haas started as a new Formula 1 team in 2016. It attracted a seasoned driver in Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen joined the team in 2017 as the Frenchman’s teammate. There was a strong upward trend in the team from 2016 to 2018, but it’s been getting worse since 2019.
Haas took a big risk in 2021, especially with the line-up: Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin both come from Formula 2 and had little experience with the modern Formula 1 car. Additionally, the team would not be rolling out any upgrades to the underperforming VF-21 the team is driving this year to keep full focus on 2022.

It’s never enough for Steiner
Despite all that, Steiner at MotorsportWeek.com is optimistic about the future: “You’re never in a comfortable position, you always want more, because on the day you don’t want to anymore, you should change jobs – especially in F1 . “
Steiner sees many improvements in the team. “Technically speaking, with Simone Resta at the head of the technical group, we have a front runner again and I see good progress there. I am quite hopeful and confident that we will return to our old form.”
