Hamilton overcomes a weekend of obstacles to win, the Haas F1 team based in Kannapolis finds positive things at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix

KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) – Lewis Hamilton came out of the field to claim victory while the Kannapolis-based Haas F1 team made some positive comments at the São Paulo Grand Prix at the José Carlos Pace Autódromo in Brazil.

“Our race today was pretty good – the starts were good,” said Haas team boss Günther Steiner. “Mick has made great strides, and so has Nikita. Mick met Kimi and that affected his race, but Nikita’s first stint was very good. I think this was one of our best weekends this year and it shows that we are getting there with the drivers. All in all, the result is not fantastic, but the progress is. “

The Uralkali Haas F1 Team drivers Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher finished 17th and 18th in the race.

Mazepin started from 19th place on Pirelli P Zero Yellow Medium and avoided climbing to 14th place – the Russian kept this position during a safety car period caused by debris on the track. Mazepin stayed briefly in the midfield group and found a rhythm by pitting on lap 35 of 71 to switch to white hard tires, which he kept until the checkered flag.

Schumacher started from 18th place on Medium and improved to 15th place in the first lap. Unfortunately, Schumacher and Alfa Romeo driver Kimi Räikkönen had slight contact on lap 11, as a result of which Schumacher suffered a front wing damage and made an unscheduled pit stop for the German necessary. Schumacher came in for repairs, picking up hard compound tires before coming back on laps 31 and 63, both times with medium tires.

Lewis Hamilton took the 101st victory of his Formula 1 career ahead of Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas.

The 2021 Formula 1 season of the Uralkali Haas F1 Team will start with the first Qatar Grand Prix from 19.

“I had a good day,” said Mazepin. “My start wasn’t the best, I had a good approach and then had a bit of wheelspin, so the first corners were difficult to overtake. I had a good Turn 4 and after that I think I took good care of the tires for the first few laps. The team did a great job giving me the car, which worked very well in the beginning, I had a difficult middle and was able to recover towards the end. I took a step when I had to make it and of course we tried to maximize it with a couple of VSCs and there wasn’t much on the table to get more out of today. “

“We fought against Kimi and joked about it in the press conference,” said Schumacher. “It’s unfortunate that we got a little too close, but things like that happen, especially in this kind of corner where it’s tight. I went into the pits hobbling, but after that I think it was a good race overall. We learn from these things and every fight I get is really useful. Lots of positive things to take away from here and I have to say I really enjoyed it. “

Round 20 of the 2021 FIA Formula 1 World Championship is the Qatar Grand Prix, which will be held at the Losail International Circuit. Practice – Friday, November 19th Qualifying – Saturday, November 20th. Race – Sunday November 21st.
