With odds just above even money, Lewis Hamilton is PointsBet Sportsbook’s early favorite for the Monaco F1 Grand Prix in Monte Carlo on May 23, 2021. Hamilton’s chances of winning are +110. His chances of winning pole are -105.
Hamilton is a two-time winner of this race with victories in 2019 and 2016. Last year’s edition of the Monaco Grand Prix was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hamilton’s low odds are partly due to winning three of the first four F1 races.
Hamilton’s chances of setting the fastest race lap are more lucrative at +165.
One way to see the American odds is to move the decimal point two places to the left. This tells a bettor what he’ll do with a $ 1 bet, so the return on investment for Hamilton this week is $ 1.10. For bettors who are more comfortable with fractional odds, a bet of +300 is the same as 3/1.
As the only other driver to have won an F1 race this season, Max Verstappen lists odds of +125. Verstappen won the Romagna Grand Prix and was no worse than second that year. He also won last year’s season finale, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit, after starting that race from pole.
Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas is in third place with a rate of +800. Bottas has achieved nine Formula 1 victories in his career, most recently at the Russian Grand Prix last year. This year he came third three times.
No other driver is listed with odds lower than 18/1.
Sergio Perez took fourth place at the Monaco Grand Prix with a rate of +1800. Perez finished fifth in his last F1 race. His first and so far only F1 victory was in the penultimate race in Bahrain last year. Perez is listed at odds of +175 to get a podium.
Charles Leclerc rounds off the top 5 with a rate of +3500. These are the lowest odds the Ferrari driver has received this season. Leclerc’s direct chances of winning pull his top three odds to +270.
Lando Norris, who just signed a multi-year deal with McLaren F1 to drive through 2022 and beyond, can be bet a +540 on a podium finish. Should his swing take him all the way to Victory Lane, it would be worth +6600.
Norris’ teammate Daniel Ricciardo, the winner of the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix, is also listed with +6600 for overall victory.
Haas F1 driver Nikita Mazepin is the first driver to be favored with a rate of +300. He’s only retired once out of four races in his career, but he still has to finish within one lap of the leader.
