Haas was preparing for the “difficult” F1 campaign in 2021

Haas braced for "difficult" 2021 F1 campaign

The American-owned team finished ninth in the constructors’ championship that year, and its hopes were not backed up by engine maker Ferrari, which saw a step back in power.

With the rules of F1, according to which the teams have to transfer their cars by 2021, Steiner admits that there will be no dramatic progress in winter.

However, it suggests some hope that a new engine Ferrari is producing could at least give it a chance to evolve.

“I know it will be another difficult one,” Steiner said around 2021. “It’s just how difficult it is – and I don’t know that yet.”

“But there are many factors that are beyond my control and beyond my control, and I hope those factors – I know what we’re talking about here – I hope they get better, you know?

“Of course we also have to work on our side, a lot of work. We will strive to do our best in the short time we have. That’s the only thing I can do right now, and hopefully someone else will add something to the party too. “

To keep costs down, Haas didn’t make any major improvements to its car in 2020, which meant its competitiveness deteriorated over the course of the year as others made progress.

However, it will keep an eye on some developments for the next year that should at least allow it to move forward a bit. However, Steiner says it’s not easy to predict how much progress the team can make in 2021.

“We’re working hard on it,” added Steiner. “It’s hard to tell how we started development three or four months ago. It’s not that the other people developed a lot, it’s just that we didn’t have open development because we had to manage budgets and resources.

“We did very well when we had to manage resources and budgets. I hope we can go back to those times.

“But next year it will be difficult because we are not developing from a car that is very competitive. The reality is that we won’t find out until we test in Barcelona and then in Australia when we do first qualifying.

“We’re trying to do our best, but I don’t want to promise how great it will be because I don’t think it will be that great. But as always, you try to do your best and hope that you can make up for something you lost before. “
