Haas, to pay special tribute to colleagues on Portuguese GP cars

Haas to pay special tribute to colleague on Portuguese GP cars

Haas will pay special tribute to his colleagues at the Portuguese Grand Prix this weekend after passing away at the age of just 24.

Almost two years ago, Shepherd, who was on the team as a garage technician, was involved in a serious motorcycle accident on the way home from work.

Although Shepherd survived, he suffered severe physical injuries and severe trauma to his brain that required life-saving surgery.

Although he had recovered physically after three months in intensive care, the trauma to Shepherd’s brain resulted in him being in “persistent impaired consciousness.”

A crowdfunding page resulted in significant funds being raised to support his care and treatment. Shepherd sadly lost his brave struggle for survival earlier this month.

As a sign of respect, the cars driven by Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin bear the touching words “In loving memory of Martin Shepherd, our team-mate and our friend 1996-2021” on the nose of the VF-21.

Team members in Portimão will also wear black armbands over the weekend.

I remember our friend and colleague Martin Shepherd, who sadly passed away at the weekend. He was a popular teammate with an omnipresent smile and a passion for his garage job. Our condolences now go to his family and friends. # HaasF1 pic.twitter.com/C0Y2J9kOSC
