The rumor mill about the future of the Haas F1 team has been raging for some time, suggesting a sale to a Russian billionaire, the youngest in this growing list of seemingly suitors.
It was mentioned that Dmitry Mazepin, father of Formula 2 driver Nikita, is considering buying Haas to enable his son to advance into Formula 1.
Mazepin Sr. is the owner and chairman of the chemical company Uralchem, which increases his personal net worth to $ 7.1 billion. Graduated in economics, Mazepin has historically used his fortune for philanthropic causes, sponsoring $ 700,000 worth of cars for large, low-income families in 2012.
Outlets have claimed Mazepin has already made an offer that “few teams would turn down,” but Haas has turned down the opportunity to sell.
In an interview with Formula1news, a team spokesman categorically stated that “the team is not for sale”.
Given the coronavirus crisis, Haas is just one of many teams struggling financially. Despite the difficulties, the team is established after signing the new Concorde deal and refusing to sell.
Haas’ intention to stay in Formula 1 is clear and by signing the new deal along with the other nine other teams her value is now an additional $ 200 million for the privilege.
Mazepin, 21, who is currently sixth in the F2 Championship, looks good to qualify for a super license at the end of this season. When he made his test debut for Mercedes last year, he ended the day fastest of them all.
Meanwhile, Dmitry Mazepin’s name has been associated with the sales of most of the teams – Renault, Force India, Williams and now Haas.
While his father works on the sidelines to find a solution, it has become Nikita’s job to make the most of the remaining laps in the F2 championship; four more races in the season, both weekends in Bahrain.
Assuming he manages, the lack of a seat is all that would be between him and an F1 driver. Then father will step in and solve what would be expected for his boy.
