Haas team “pumps everything into next year’s car”

Haas team "pumps everything into next year's car"

The Haas team’s season has been disappointing so far. They are last in the constructors’ championship and drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin are often at the bottom of the grid. Nevertheless, the team looks to the future with optimism.

In 2018 the team finished fifth, last year it was only ninth. However, this is no surprise to the team. The current car will not be developed any further, a consequence of both the pandemic and the lack of resources.

“It’s not that we had a competitive car last year so we were like, ‘Okay, we have a big rule change for ’22. If we try to develop this year’s car we can improve performance, but we can justify the effects? ” on ’22? Just no’. So we decided to cut our losses. We know this year will be a year of transition, we have to deal with what we have and pump it all into next year’s car, “Chief Race Engineer Ayao Komatsu told the F1 official website.

New drivers for Haas

Last year it was announced that Haas would be handing over drivers Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean to rookies Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin. A risk for the team, but a nice challenge: “Both of them have something to learn every single weekend. When you have a driver who is on the podium regularly, they expect the car to be decent. Car would be very frustrating. You just focus on getting the most out of the package. The pressure is gone for them as they are not in the limelight, not fighting for points or podium places. You can focus on improving yourself, learning the car, learning how to have a session, looking at data, and engineering, ”said Komatsu.

As expected, 2022 will be an exciting season for the team. Gene Haas, the owner of the team, loves racing but wants a return on his investment. So the team has to show that it can do that.
