Haas has passed its chassis crash test ahead of the 2022 F1 season, when Guenther Steiner sheds light on their plans alongside McLaren’s James Key.
Amid news from Mercedes that they are launching the W13 ahead of the 2022 F1 season, Haas said it has passed the mandatory FIA crash test of its new chassis. The two outfits were the first to announce their new season events.
Steiner, meanwhile, shed light on their plans for the new season in terms of crash testing and how they should assemble their new car, the VF22, which is being prepared by Simone Resta, who has been working on the new machine all year.
“We did some preliminary crash tests because you don’t make the chassis complete right away,” Steiner told FormulaRapida.net. “You’re part of it. Hopefully we pass, that’s the goal. And no, the car is assembled before the first test and this year we assemble it again in Italy as we did before.
“Last year we didn’t do that because it was an existing car. It was the 2020 car that we just rebuilt that changed a few ways, but we will reassemble it in Italy because all the technicians are there and a lot of the parts are made by Dallara. That’s why it’s better to be at their plant when we assemble the first car and then take it from there to Spain for testing,” Steiner sums up.
At the same time, McLaren also confirmed that its chassis was also approved by the FIA. “This is the time of year when you usually start crash testing anyway and test the first major components, that’s every year,” Key told media, including FormulaRapida.net.
“It’s a busy time for the teams, for the FIA to witness and sign off on all these tests. We successfully went through this process with one chassis in early December,” summarized Key.
