The Russian driver finished fifth in the F2 championship last year and graduated in F1, partly because his father had a large stake in the Haas team. Unfortunately, the rookie wasn’t even able to finish on points once in the 2021 season. However, Mazepin prides itself on holding out its disappointing races this season, giving itself a rating of four out of five this year:

“I never think you should get a five because five is excellence and I don’t know what excellence is. Today it may be great, but tomorrow I will find that I can do a little more. Well, four is the maximum I can give myself. Well, I guess four for sticking out because times have been really tough in some places this year. Probably a three for adjustment, because that wasn’t my forte and I keep improving. “

Mazepin fought in the back of the grid all season long. His only point of comparison was his teammate Mick Schumacher, who almost always surpassed him. The Russian achieved the all-time fastest time in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix with 14th place.

There have been all sorts of driver mistakes in Nikita Mazepin’s rookie season

Haas again proved to be the slowest car this season as both Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher did not finish on points this year. The Russian driver, who made a terrible number of driver mistakes throughout the season, made the problems of the only non-European team on the grid worse.

Three spins, including a fall on lap 1 in Bahrain, didn’t start Mazepin’s F1 career the way he would have liked. The Russian has improved slightly over the season and drives a pretty bad car. Without DNFs, he didn’t manage to qualify above P20

The 22-year-old crashed in just three corners of his F1 career in one of his toughest moments at the season opener in Bahrain. He said:

“I also made some mistakes, like in the Bahrain race and some other events when I felt I wasn’t performing well or tried too hard and then ended up losing my lap time, like in Brazil where I did think we had a chance to overtake qualifying. ”Williams or goes into Q2. That was definitely one of the lowest moments. ”

Nikita Mazepin is ready to return with Haas for the 2022 season. The team is confident that the new car changes will suit them better.
