Haas newbies thought they knew everything about Bahrain

Haas boss Günther Steiner believes that his rookie drivers will realize at some point that they know little about Formula 1.

The American team has decided to sacrifice its present in the hope of a better future after deciding not to develop its 2021 car and not one but two rookies to replace the highly experienced duo Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen to use.

The team hopes this approach will bring much better days from 2022 onwards, but for now one of the main focuses is to fully integrate both Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin into the world of Formula 1 with some crucial experiences of their own.

A hectic schedule is on the agenda

Steiner hopes that at some point his drivers will notice that they had a lot to learn when they entered the premier class of motorsport.

“As you all know, there is always room for improvement,” said Steiner.

“They are improving and, as I always said at the beginning of the year, at some point they will actually realize how little they knew about Formula 1 when they competed in Bahrain this year.

“I don’t know when that will come, but there is usually a moment when you get to learn at a young age, because in Bahrain they certainly thought they knew everything and later in races they think wow how little knew I.”

“There are surprises that mean the more you learn in the races because you just realize how different it is.

“They have made good progress, there is always room for improvement and they still have a way to go.

“Both have the small disadvantage that they have no one to use for orientation.
